Spinning, Special Interest and FiFi are now meeting via Zoom for Jan-Feb-Mar. The times for the zoom meetings are 11am-1pm. They must be on the Satellite Groups mailing list to receive the zoom links. They are sent out prior to meetings by Elaine so they should contact her to get on the list.
Northtown Spinners - Our spinners group meets once a month (all year) on the 1st Wed. of the month. Everyone interested in spinning or learning to spin is welcome. Members range from those who have never spun before to those with years of experience and include those familiar with wheels, spindles & e-spinners. And our experienced spinners are always willing to answer questions & help newbies.
Special Interest Group – This group concentrates on exploring various weaving techniques.
Spinner’s Challenge
This year’s Spinner’s Challenge is to create a fabulous hat from your hand-spun fiber. All participants must start with 4 oz of some natural white fiber of your choice.
This is where the fun begins. If you wish, you are permitted to dye all or part of your fiber, using any technique or color. The fiber must be spun into yarn. Any spinning technique and spinning equipment may be used and any style of yarn may be created (singles, plied, art yarn, etc).
The hat may be constructed using any technique (weaving, knitting, crocheting, sewing, etc) . Embellishments may be added to your hat (with the exception that no additional fiber can be used).
The fabulous hats will be shared at the Holiday Party in December. The hats can be adult or children size. When presenting your hat at the Holiday party. Please submit a write up* and sample of:
The fiber you used
The yarn you spun
Write up of the dye process if used
Construction method

It meets once a month (all year) on the last Wednesday of the month. Check newsletter for location.
FI/FI (Find It/Finish It) – Our FI/FI group meets at the same time as the Special Interest Group & provides a time & place for any member to work on whatever unfinished project they may have (and we all have many of them don’t we?), whether it be weaving, spinning, beading, sewing, knitting, etc.
If you are interested in joining any of these groups please contact Peg or Elaine so we can add you to the list. All members are welcome.
Weaver’ Challenge
Surprise in a Bag
December 6, 2025, the Holiday Party, will be the kick-off of the Weaver's Challenge. Work will be due at the Summer Picnic in June.
Our challenge this year is called "Surprise in a Bag." Here's how it works:
Bring 4 ounces (or more) in a bag (so we can't see inside) to the party. This can come from your stash.
At the party, each person selects a bag and draws a technique to use with the yarn.
During the winter and spring months, weave two pieces using the yarn and technique - one to keep and one to return to the donor.
You can use additional yarn from your stash to complete the challenge.
If you are not able to attend the party but want to participate, contact me in advance (716-434-3201 or marti.schrichte@yahoo.com).
The benefit of this challenge is that we get out of our comfort zone for fiber and color and technique and we produce something of beauty.
