Spinning, Special Interest and FiFi are now meeting via Zoom for Jan-Feb-Mar. The times for the zoom meetings are 11am-1pm. They must be on the Satellite Groups mailing list to receive the zoom links. They are sent out prior to meetings by Elaine so they should contact her to get on the list.
Northtown Spinners - Hello! We look forward to all interested novice to experienced hand spinners joining us for our monthly spinning get together. Please feel free to bring any wool, batts, handspun yarns, works in progress, and finished projects to share with the group. In addition to being a very friendly group, there is also lots of experience that is willingly shared. Be sure to bring your spinning wheels and/or spindles and your lunch.
Special Interest Group – The Special Interest group meets year-round on the last Wednesday of the month. Due to the weather we met on zoom this past week. Our topic of study this year will be “Plain Weave-Not So Plain”. Look through your pattern books, magazines, past years workshop binders and see what ideas you can find to share. Everyone is invited to join us and bring what you are working on. This is also a great place to network with other weavers. If you are not on the list and do not receive the updates, please contact Ellen at emccarthy@msn.com or the guild address. If you would like to suggest a meeting location for any of the open dates please contact Ellen.
FI/FI (Find It/Finish It) – Our FI/FI group meets at the same time as the Special Interest Group & provides a time & place for any member to work on whatever unfinished project they may have (and we all have many of them don’t we?), whether it be weaving, spinning, beading, sewing, knitting, etc.
It is nice to have company and conversation while working on a project.
Any questions, suggestions, etc can be directed to emccarthy@msn.com
Southtown Spinners –
The Southtown Spinners are meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the Craft room at Fox Run. For more information, please contact Mary Ann at 716-472-5265 or makull2@me.com
2026 WGB Spinners Challenge – 5 Card Draw
The 5 Card Draw challenges spinners to create a skein of yarn (2 oz minimum) designed using five categories. Each spinner will choose 1 card from each of the 5 Challenge Category decks of cards. The 5 Challenge Categories are:
Color
Protein Fiber
Plant Fiber
Embellishments
Yarn Design
The 2 oz skein of yarn will be constructed using the selected Yarn Design. The fiber content can be between 0% to 50% wool (any breed) and:
Color – the color drawn should be the dominant color
Protein fiber – any proportion
Plant Fiber – any proportion
Embellishment – any proportion
If you don’t have a particular fiber in your stash, the Northtown Spinners will be glad to share their stash with you. We want everyone to feel “comfortably” challenged.
You can still participate! Patricia will have the 5 Card Draw cards with her at the Sept 27 meeting. The final 2 oz skeins of challenge yarn will be shared at the 2026 Holiday Party. Please contact Patricia (patricia2576@gmail.com) if you have any questions.
