Audrey ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Weather Ranker mobile application (the "App"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our App.
1. Information Collection and Use
Location Data
To provide local weather rankings, the App requires your approximate coordinates (latitude and longitude). The App can acquire this in two ways:
Device GPS (Location Permission): If granted, the App requests your approximate (coarse) location directly from your device.
IP-Based Geolocation: If GPS permissions are not granted or location services are unavailable, the App determines your approximate location by sending your public IP address to a third-party geolocation service (primarily ipapi.co, with ip-api.com and freeipapi.com used as redundant fallback systems to ensure service availability).
How We Use It: These coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo API to retrieve weather forecasts and historical weather records.
Data Transmission and Storage: We (the developers) do not collect, upload, or store your location data or IP address on our own servers. However, please note that transmitting your coordinates to Open-Meteo and your IP address to the geolocation services is technically necessary to complete these external API queries.
Caching and Local Storage
All your custom activity profiles, weather rating rules, preferences, and cached weather forecasts are saved entirely locally in your device's private storage (SharedPreferences). This data never leaves your device and is not collected, accessed, or stored by us.
2. Third-Party Service Providers
The App communicates with the following third-party web APIs to fetch weather and geolocation data:
Open-Meteo: Used to query weather forecasts and historical climate data using location coordinates. You can read their privacy policy at https://open-meteo.com/.
ipapi.co: Our primary service used to resolve approximate coordinates based on your public IP address. You can read their privacy policy at https://ipapi.co/privacy/.
ip-api.com: A backup service used as a fallback to resolve approximate coordinates if the primary geolocation service fails. You can read their privacy policy at https://ip-api.com/docs/privacy.
freeipapi.com: An additional backup service used to resolve approximate coordinates in the event that other geolocation services are unavailable. You can read their privacy policy at https://freeipapi.com/.
Note: For these web services to respond to your device's requests, your public IP address and query details (such as coordinates) are sent to their servers. We do not provide these services with any personal identifiers (such as name, email, or device identifiers).
3. Children's Privacy
Our App does not collect, harvest, or store any personal data. It is safe for use by children, and we do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone.
