In addition to her research, Dr. Ding explores new forms of mathematical art through digital technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and 3D printing, as well as acrylic painting and sketching.

Mathematics Takes Shape: 3D Printing and Origami

A playful collection of creations by my students and me: Schrödinger’s cat, a square-shaped cat, an algorithmically designed vase, and an apple and snowman whose two-color printing added an extra technical challenge. A cute pink gingerbread figure and an intricate modular origami sculpture complete this exploration of mathematics, technology, and imagination.

Mathematical artwork by my Calculus III students: quadric surfaces constructed with skewers and rubber bands, including a hyperboloid of one sheet and a hyperbolic paraboloid (saddle surface)—alongside a modular origami vase.
