WDHS Reading Lists

Below is a list of the major works in the curriculum guide as options for study in our core English classes. Works listed in bold are covered by most teachers most years, other works listed may serve as options based on novel availability and the needs of students which certainly vary from class to class and year to year. It is important to note that in each year there are also many short works and non-fiction readings as the curriculum and current events dictate. Works denoted with an asterisk* deal with controversial issues such as racism, violence, sexuality, sexism, death and/or may contain adult language. These topics are meant to be discussed in class with sensitivity and concern for the emotional safety of all of our students. We believe that giving students the opportunity to discuss these topics in a classroom environment will help foster empathy and understanding. If there is ever a question or a concern about any of the content of a reading, please contact your student's English teacher.
