The Above and Beyond Awards are held every other year to recognize individuals and groups who support and promote policies and practices to enhance development for young children with or at risk for disabilities and their families. Criteria for the Above and Beyond Awards give particular consideration to the use of the DEC Recommended Practices.
The Outstanding Contribution to Early Childhood
This award is designed to acknowledge the important contribution of those who support early care and education for young children with disabilities. Individuals in a variety of roles may be considered (therapists, parents, paraprofessionals, volunteers, active community members, etc.).Â

The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher of the Year
This award is designed to acknowledge the positive impact an ECSE teacher has made in the field. Priority will be given to teachers who work daily with young children (birth to age 8) in a variety of settings, including family child care, group child care centers, Head Start, preschool, 4K, kindergarten, early elementary (itinerant, co-taught, and/or self-contained environments).
