HUMAN GENOME

The genome of an organism is the whole of all its genetic information.

Human genome consists of:

3200 million pairs of nucleotides (bases).

3500 genes (less than expected).

46 chromosomes (23 pairs in each cell, except 23 in the sexes, which are not even).

Of all the DNA of the human genome, only 5% carry information, the rest is called "DNA waste" and is not coding. In a DNA sequence, the pieces that do not generate proteins are called introns and those that generate them are called exons
