Integrated ground-air-space wireless network is envisaged to connect terrestrial nodes, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), high-altitude platforms (HAPs), and satellites, thereby achieving ubiquitous and seamless coverage and providing versatile and various services for the devices from different environments and applications. This integrated network is regarded as the core component of the sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks.
Compared to the terrestrial wireless networks, non-terrestrial wireless networks are built upon very different network architectures, protocols, and operational mechanisms. As a result, classical techniques developed for the terrestrial wireless networks cannot be directly applied to non-terrestrial wireless networks, let alone supporting the truly integration of ground, air and space wireless networks. In view of these challenges, the 3GPP has been working on an enhanced NR support for advancing the integration of non-terrestrial networks and terrestrial networks. In particular, intelligent, flexible, hierarchical network architectures that deeply integrate non-terrestrial and terrestrial networks shall be developed, taking into account the heterogeneous communication, sensing, and computing capabilities of the ground nodes, aerial platforms, and satellites. Moreover, key enabling technologies such as channel modelling, signal processing, interference mitigation, mobility and resource management need to be adequately devised for achieving adaptive and on-demand service provision within a unified integrated ground-air-space network architecture. Finally, typical use cases and standards that verify the usefulness of the network architectures and key technologies need to be designed. In light of the unprecedented interest in this field, this workshop solicits high-quality original papers on topics including, but not limited to:
