Special Session on

"Neural Networks and Reinforcement Learning for Smart Energy Systems"

IEEE WORLD CONGRESS ON COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE (WCCI 2022)

18-23 July, 2022, Padova, Italy

Organized by: Dr. Avijit Das and Dr. Zhen Ni

Aim and Scope

Increasing trends of using distributed energy resources (DERs) and information and communication technologies challenge the modern electric grids with variable and uncertain generation (such as wind and solar), stochastic load profiles and power flows, optimization under many DERs, cyber-attacks (unintentional and malicious), communication latencies and data loss, and so on. Recent advances in neural networks and reinforcement learning attracted researchers' attention in the society and are accepted as promising approaches for addressing optimization and control challenges and demands envisioned for a future grid. This special session aims to address and disseminate the state-of-the-art research and development of neural networks and reinforcement learning approaches in smart energy system applications.

This special session will provide a unique platform for researchers from different research communities, including artificial intelligence, computational intelligence, power and energy, optimization and control, cyber-physical security, intelligent and expert systems, communications, and others, to share their research expertise towards smart energy systems. The special session will also enhance the discussion among different communities to explore more challenging cross-domain research topics along this direction.
