Granny Square
Patterns

Basic Granny Square:

Crochet a granny square that is approximately 5" by 5" with the final outside ring color being black. Please use standard weight yarn and be sure to work your ends in. We need 70 square to make a lap quilt (35" x 50"). The squares will be sewn together and a border added to the outside edge. This is a great way to use up small balls of yarn!

Some tips on making granny squares:
• Make several centers at a time.
• Tie off at the end of each round.
• Start each round in a different corner.
• Flip the square with each new color, instead of always working counter-clockwise.

Your granny square can have a different design as long as it is 5" x 5" with a black background. Click on the links below for instructions on making granny squares.

  • Bring finished squares to our monthly club meetings. Thank you!
