Annual Holiday Luncheon at Vincent's
Women for a Better Louisiana held its annual holiday luncheon at Vincent's in Metairie. WBL continues to support organizations that advocate for children and the environment.

STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading) Donor Appreciation Party
Harriet Aguiar-Netto presented a donation from WBL at the STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading) donor appreciation party. STAIR has provided one-on-one reading and literacy tutoring since 1985.

Maketa Walters, from Metanoia.Inc was the speaker at today's Women for a Better Louisiana meeting. Metanoia Manor is a sanctuary for underage girls who have survived human trafficking.

New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation Luncheon &
Metropolitan Crime Commission's Awards Luncheon
Members of Women for a Better Louisiana attended the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation luncheon and the Metropolitan Crime commission's Awards luncheon. The Metropolitan Crime Commission fights to reduce crime and expose corruption. The luncheon recognizes the accomplishments of federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
2025 September Meeting
Dr. Christan Nicole Ryan, Executive Director from Green Light of New Orleans, was the speaker at today's Women for a Better Louisiana meeting. This non-profit organization "fights climate change one light bulb, backyard vegetable garden and rain barrel at a time!"

The annual meeting and installation luncheon of Women for a Better Louisiana was held at the Chateau Estates Golf & Country Club today.
WBL supports organizations that advocate for children and the environment.
2025 April Meeting
Codie Whitmer (with Donna Bliss), from Child Advocacy Service/CASA for the River Parishes, was the speaker at today's Women for a Better Louisiana meeting. They serve children and families in 10 parishes of Louisiana.
WBL supports organizations that advocate for children and the environment. A number of WBL members will be attending sessions of the state legislature next week.
2025 March Meeting
Joanie Hughes from LAYALA (Louisiana Young Artists & Young Authors) in Belle Chasse was the speaker at today's Women for a Better Louisiana meeting. This organization is staffed by former student volunteers and offers weekly programs for young students to learn art, creative writing, theater/film, woodworking shop, "weird" science laboratory and culinary arts. The activities take place in a former jail that was converted for its present use by former students.

Unfortunately, the schedule speaker from Hotel Hope was unable to attend. Regular monthly meeting agenda followed and concluded with the importance of voting in the upcoming election.

Member Linda Kraus is holding the Gulf Coast Bank & Trust "Auctions in August" check for $414.00 made out to Women for a Better Louisiana. Thanks to all the members for donating objects to be auctioned.

2024 April Meeting
Heather West, the Executive Director of LOOP NOLA, was the speaker at the April Women for a Better Louisiana meeting. With a motto of EVERYONE BELONGS OUTDOORS, LOOP NOLA offers 4 youth development programs throughout the year: Partner Programs, Outdoor Adventure Club, Camp LOOP Garou, & the Outdoor Ambassador Internship All of the programs "combine elements of proven youth development models with outdoor activities to improve participants' ability to thrive, regardless of their family and community challenges."
2024 March Meeting
Bernadette Lucas, from Liberty's Kitchen, was the speaker at the March WBL meeting. The Liberty's Kitchen Youth Development Program is a ten-week work readiness intensive designed for New Orleans youth between the ages of 16-24, who are out of work and out of school.

Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair
This was the 3rd day of the 2024 GNOSEF with judging of the senior level projects taking place. Women for a Better Louisiana first started supporting the Greater New Orleans Science Fair in 1963. Later, in 1976, the scope was expanded and the name was changed to the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair.
2024 January Meeting
The speaker at today's Women for a Better Louisiana meeting was Gregory Ravy, President and CEO of HEROES of NEW ORLEANS, "a grassroots nonprofit community organization committed to the revitalization of communities in which youth and families have experienced trauma from living in poverty." Some of their opportunities include: Youth Development Program, a justice involved Youth Career Exploration Program, Youth Summer Employment Workforce Development Program, STEMbotics Program, Podcast, Gaming, Drone Flying Training, Coding Training and Robotics.

Women for a Better Louisiana held its annual holiday luncheon at Vincent's in Metairie. WBL continues to support organizations that advocate for children and the environment.

Lily Mejia, the Development Manager of Grow Dat, was the speaker at the Women for a Better Louisiana meeting.
"The mission of Grow Dat Youth Farm is to nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. Our mission requires earth-friendly food production techniques, respectful relationship with land, equitable organizational operations, and positive human interaction."
The speaker at the Women for a Better Louisiana meeting was Leah Edmonds a board member of the St. Tammany Art Association (STAA). "A primary goal of STAA is to provide exceptional quality arts education to our Northshore community and offer unique educational experiences for school-age children." Among other programs, they offer children ages 6-17 classes in a summer program.

Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair
At the annual end-of-year board meeting of the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair, we reviewed the 2023 Fair and heard about our local students' successes at the Louisiana state fair and ISEF (the Regeneron International Science and
Engineering Fair).
We were excited that our WBL Behavioral Science winner for 2023 [Tides of Stress: The Impact of Hurricanes on Emotion Regulation During a Pandemic" Vaishnavi Kumbala (10th grade) Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies] was a grand award winner at the GNOSEF and went to the state and international fairs.

Donna Meyers (Child Advocacy Chair) delivered snacks to the New Orleans Child Advocacy Center on behalf of WBL.
Donna Meyers and Darlene Mitchell visited River Parish Region CASA (13726 River Road) and delivered donations.

Ronald McDonald House
Several Members visited the new facility on 210 State Street, NOLA. At the time they requested local artwork to decorate the walls of the new facility. Picture is the artwork that Diana Bulot donated to the Ronald McDonald House in the name of WBL.
