I have found that my direction as an artist has solidified around me. More specifically, around how I see and understand the world and universe. I have found, as usually in my life, I exceed the easy classifications. I am comfortable not fitting into the categories with check boxes. However, at times it is easier for others if they have a simpler way to categorize me; in that case, I am a fine artist, as much as that designation still has meaning in our current times.
I generally create my artworks in a considered manner. I think about the art. I think about my intention for the artwork. I think about how the work should impact its viewers. However, not all my intentions are grand; sometimes I just like the look of the piece and how it makes me feel.
While I have studied the traditional media - paint, pen, pencil, paper, and canvas - my media of choice are digital. I prefer to paint with digital tools on a digital canvas. While there are many algorithms and shortcuts that can be applied, the digital brushes can demand the same level of skills as if I were painting in oil or watercolor.
My journey with photography stretches back to my youth when I was carrying a Kodak Instamatic camera making snapshots of tourist destinations and family gatherings. Later, like Andy Whorhal, I used a Polaroid camera to experiment with different photographic techniques. After dozens of cameras and hundreds of rolls of film, I have settled into now using digital cameras and image processing.
Today, I apply my accumulated skills and knowledge to creating both fine art and its practical sibling graphic art.
