Rev. Ronald ’Doc’ Myers was a leading national advocate for health care to the poor and disenfranchised. In 1990, Rev. Myers became the first ordained and commissioned medical missionary to serve in America's poorest region, the Mississippi Delta, in the history of the African American church. In 1997, through the leadership of Lula Briggs Galloway, President of the NAJL and Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D., Chairman of the NAJL, the U.S. congress officially passed historic legislation recognizing Juneteenth as "Juneteenth Independence Day" in America.
Rev. Myers introduced Juneteenth to 43 states and the District of Columbia. His vision became a reality June 17, 2021 when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day legislation with NJOF board member, Ms. Opal Lee at the table.
