About Waterpower Day
What is Waterpower Day?
Established by the Ontario Waterpower Association, Waterpower Day is a virtual celebration that recognizes the history and importance of waterpower in Ontario and the role it continues to play more than 100 years after the first waterpower facility came online.
When is Waterpower Day?
Waterpower Day is celebrated on June 20.
Since Waterpower Day falls on a Saturday in 2026, we invite you to post on either Friday, June 19 or Saturday, June 20.
Why June 20?
June 20 was selected for Waterpower Day in recognition of Sir Adam Beck (born June 20, 1857), a Canadian politician and waterpower advocate who founded the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario.
