This Privacy Policy explains how Waterly ("the App," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our hydration-tracking application on Android. We built Waterly to work fully on-device wherever possible, and to be transparent about the few cases where data leaves your phone.
Account & profile information
If you create an account, we collect your name and email address. If you use the app without an account, your data stays local to your device.
Hydration & habit data
Water and drink intake logs, custom drink recipes, daily goals, weight, activity level, wake/sleep schedule, streaks, and badges you've earned. This information is used to calculate your hydration goal and power reminders, insights, and the in-app coach.
Health & fitness data (optional)
If you choose to connect Health Connect, we read workout, step, and sleep data solely to adjust your hydration goal and reminder timing. We never write hydration data back to Health Connect without your permission, and this connection can be revoked at any time in Settings.
Location & weather data (optional)
With your permission, we use approximate (coarse) location to fetch local weather, which our smart reminders use to adjust your daily goal on hot or active days. Precise GPS location is never collected.
Device & usage data
Standard diagnostic information (device model, OS version, crash logs, app performance metrics) to help us fix bugs and improve reliability.
We use collected information to: calculate and adjust your personalized hydration goal; schedule and deliver smart reminders; generate insights, streaks, and coach messages; sync your data across your devices if you're signed in; maintain and improve app performance and reliability; and provide customer support.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your hydration, health, or location data for advertising, and Waterly does not display third-party ads.
If you join a hydration challenge or add friends, your display name, avatar, streak count, and challenge progress are visible to other participants you've connected with. You can leave a challenge or remove a friend connection at any time, which stops further sharing.
Your hydration logs, profile, and settings are stored locally on your device using encrypted local storage. If you enable account sync, this same data is also stored on our secure servers, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We retain your data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the app's features.
Waterly may use the following categories of third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
Health Connect (Android) — for optional workout/sleep sync
A weather data provider — for optional weather-adaptive reminders
Cloud infrastructure providers — for optional account sync and backup
Crash and analytics tooling — for stability and performance monitoring only
You can, at any time, from within the app: export your data as a CSV file; disconnect Health Connect or location access; delete individual drink logs or your entire history; and delete your account, which permanently removes your data from our servers within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, or port your data, or to object to certain processing — contact us using the details below to exercise these rights.
Waterly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in-app or by email before the changes take effect.
