Water Development in the Peruvian Highlands

We are recruiting undergraduate and graduate students for a National Science Foundation funded International Research  Experience Program in Peru in the summer of 2024. We are looking for an interdisciplinary and diverse group to study water resources and development in the Peruvian Andes. Student participants will participate in a course in the spring semester, 4 to 5 weeks research in Cusco region of Perú, and a semester of independent research in the fall. This is a paid internship. Open to sophmores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, with preference on juniors and graduate students who will be enrolled in fall 2024 and students with Spanish language skills.

Applications are due October 31st . Successful applicants will be notified in mid November. Successful applicants will be paid a $600/week stipend during the summer research program. The final two installments will be paid in the fall semester after travel and during the independent research phase. Almost all food, travel and lodging expenses are included in addition to this stipend. The exceptions are those costs incurred during weekend time-off for relaxation and personal excursions.

Candidates for this opportunity must:

Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States (requirement of the funding agency).

Be enrolled at US institution of higher education

Be an undergraduate or graduate student as of the application deadline

Be willing to participate in outdoor field activities at high elevations in a foreign culture.

Be available to attend travel to Peru for 5 weeks between approximately mid June and early august 2024 (exact dates TBD) and participate in coursework over the spring 2024 and fall 2024 semesters.
