Theme: The Future of Water - How will water in your community change?

First Place

Art by Braxtyn

The future of water!  All houses will have a rain water collecting and filter system, just like my papa's house. Precipitation will be collected into the eaves and into the barrels at the side and back of the houses.  The water in the barrels is pushed through a filtration system into the house for drinking and other uses.

My art for the “Water and You” project shows two different possibilities of how our community's water will change in the future. One side shows how lakes, and rivers can be rich with animals, and plants. The other side shows how much plastic, and other kinds of pollution could change how our water will look in the future. My artwork includes an oil spill on the polluted side. I learned about oil spills a long time ago, but never really took the time to research it. From researching I learned that oil spills can affect plants, animals, and it also makes more algae grow in bodies of water. Another thing I learned is that plastic can trap animals, and that Microplastics are a problem too (Microplastics are really tiny pieces of plastic). I hope that our water in the future is clean, and pristine.

In the year 2050 our community waterways are thriving in large part to water preservation campaigns and technological advancements. In the future I will restore and preserve water using drones that analyze and clean water pollution.  My digital art depicts a special Japanese inspired garden in our community that was toxic with heavy metals like arsenic, manganese, and lead. With careful testing and treatment of the contaminated water, we were able to rebuild a healthy habitat for wildlife and fish. The drones ensure clean drinking water locally. We have successfully healed waterways in indigenous communities using the same technology. I am grateful for water. I protect and honour her.

I coded digital art using Elm to reflect the collaboration of water scientists with AI and technology to restore and preserve our precious water. See the animation here!
