The Impact Of Pandemic On Water Supply And The Water Tank Industry

The pandemic has made a negative impact on everything and all kinds of industry. This also includes the water tank industry in Kolkata. Along with that, there are several places that are having a water supply problem including Kolkata. Although, there have been other epidemics throughout history. But COVID-19 seems to stand out the most all across the globe. Every country has a different situation of the pandemic and they are dealing with it. But, in most countries, the water tank industry has been affected severely.

The very first impact the industry has seen the relocation of the workplace to home. A huge section of people is working from home which means offices are closed and they don’t need water supply every day. This also means a lot of office buildings do not require commercial water storage tanks any more. This has led to a decrease in the sale of plastic water storage tanks. Also, for months there has been a pause on the functioning of government offices, municipal clients, private industries, and regulatory authorities. This means there has been a loss in the water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

The major suppliers of plastic water storage tank have incurred a huge loss in the past months as the whole economy has come to a halt. But it is not just the water tank industry in Kolkata that has been affected. The water supply has also had an effect. Now, whether it is bad or good, it is still left to be seen. While, on one hand, the residential demand for water has gone up, on the other hand, the non-residential demand for water has gone down or stopped altogether. This also means that individual houses are expected to pay more for their increase in water demand while offices are not spending any money on the water bills. A huge revenue is expected from the non-residential places by both water industry and water tank industry.

There has also been a panic in some people whether the water supply in Kolkata is safe or not. Although in the first few months of the pandemic, these panic was something to be concerned about as most people didn’t know much details about the virus. But this panic has subsided right now as it has been clear that COVID-19 can’t affect the water.

The problem is that there is nothing we can do to improve the situation of water tank industry in Kolkata until the pandemic gets over.
