Here is a comprehensive Privacy Policy for WatchVault, tailored to the specific behavior of your source code.
Effective Date: Mar 2, 2026
WatchVault is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our browser extension handles information when you use our service.
WatchVault is designed with a "Privacy First" approach. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers.
Video Bookmarks: When you save a video, the extension collects the video title, channel name, thumbnail URL, and video ID. This information is used solely to display your saved list within the extension interface.
No Personal Identification: We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, or YouTube account credentials.
Local Storage Only: All data, including your saved video list and settings, is stored locally on your device using the chrome.storage.local API.
No Cloud Sync: Your data is not synced to any cloud service or shared across devices by us. If you uninstall the extension, the locally stored data is typically removed by the browser.
WatchVault requests the following permissions to function:
storage: Necessary to save your video vault directly on your computer so it is available the next time you open the browser.
activeTab: Used only when you interact with the extension to retrieve the current YouTube video's title and ID for saving.
contextMenus: Allows you to right-click YouTube links to save them directly to your vault.
YouTube Host Permission (*://*.youtube.com/*): Required to detect video information on YouTube pages and to display "Save" confirmation notifications (toasts) directly on the page.
YouTube: WatchVault interacts with YouTube to extract video metadata. We are not affiliated with YouTube or Google. Your use of YouTube is governed by Google’s own Privacy Policy.
No Data Selling: We do not sell, trade, or rent user information to third parties. There is no background tracking or "analytics" code included in the extension.
WatchVault does not use any remote code. All logic required for the extension to function is bundled within the package you download from the Chrome Web Store, ensuring that the code cannot be changed by an external server without a store update.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by an update to the "Effective Date" and a new version release on the Chrome Web Store.
