Will be certainly something so daunting in regards to a wasted premise. Watching the show or series will take a good idea and almost intentionally turns it into a thing as general as Netflix's "Project Power". It is painful more than just finding a skinny concept of which doesn't contain enough with regard to a feature film. With regards to both actual storytelling in addition to subtext, there is thus much the creators involving "Project Power" could possess done, but they hand picked the path of least level of resistance and a story associated with regained control and hidden human strength turned straight into an unteresting action movie that only gets simply by with the charisma through the stars and typically the speed from the filmmaking. It's almost like these were scared to unleash the energy in their own job.
Imagine if there seemed to be a drug which could switch you into a super-hero for five minutes. An individual don't understand what power will be released unless you first work with it. You might rise in flames that no longer hurt you but fixed everything around you upon fire. You can become immortals. You could just increase. Would you try Exactly what would society's power construction do with this potential to create instant superheroes (and super villains), plus interestingly, what would this do for communities associated with people stripped of electric power over generations?
One place where power structures have been clearly clarified through tragedy is New Orleans, the setting for "Project Power". Somebody is delivering this drug to poor communities still cleared from Hurricane Katrina, and it's causing total chaos. Take, for example, the criminal who discovers that taking the drug makes him a powerful chameleon, someone who blends in with any setting and basically becomes an invisible bank robber. In arguably the best action scene in the film, an NOPD officer named Frank (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) chases this modern day invisible man through the crowded streets as his target blends in with everything around him (it's one of the few times you get the reported $ 85 million dollar budget here). He's a cop on the fringes who is not only willing to try the product that rips his community apart, but also ignores his manager's orders to get to the top of the supply line. And his Saints jersey shows how much he loves his city. (Gleason, of course.)
As Frank works his way down the drug chain, he crosses paths with Art (Jamie Foxx), someone who has a clear personal bond with the nefarious industry. After a trader's explosive death, Art essentially partnerships with a girl named Robin (Dominique Fishback) while a vicious character named Biggie (Rodrigo Santoro) lurks in the background. You see, the drug has been refined by the powers that be in poor communities across the country - a fascinating idea given that nation's history of health care and experimentation, but the writer Mattson Tomlin does next to nothing with it other than superficial villains in “Project Power” - a sad miscast from Amy Landecker that appears in the last act - become classic action archetypes.
Every time “Project Power” threatens to become something more appealing and interesting, it withdraws from this edge. There's something in Foxx's performance that belongs in a better movie - he does a lot with very little here - and Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman's direction has an energy that fluctuates between driving and desperate. It's a movie that could have worked if it had fallen off the sidelines like a sequel to "Crank", and there are times when it feels like it's doing that, like some ridiculous action sequence that was shot from an unexpected POV, but then stops. Oh yeah, we've got a lot of Netflix money at work here, we'd better not take any real risks.
