Title: Chiral central charge from a single wave function

Abstract:

Chiral central charge is a quantity that characterizes the gapless edge theory of two-dimensional topological phases. While this quantity describes a physical property of the edge, the bulk-edge correspondence suggests that it is also related to certain properties of the bulk. In this talk, we introduce and study a novel function which we refer to as the modular commutator. We argue that for ground states of gapped Hamiltonians, the modular commutator of the bulk wave function is proportional to the chiral central charge without modulo operation.
