WASP IN THE SPOTLIGHT

marion tibbetts

Marion R. Tibbetts, 43-W-6, was born January 5, 1915 in Whitman, MA. Marion joined the WASP in 1943. After graduation she was assigned to Romulus Army Air Base Michigan and later Greenville Army Air Base Mississippi. After the WASP program was disbanded, Marion was one of eight WASP accepted into the Air Force where she served from 1950 –1974. She retired with the rank of major. After the Air Force, she worked for the Red Cross until retiring again in Largo, FL. Marion never married, but she lived life to the fullest. She had a collection of 290 letters with a lifelong friend, Wayne Brewer. He was a Red Cross Field Director. She also had postcards of her world-wide travels. She even had a video of WASP training at Sweetwater Municipal pool around 1943.
