This murder-mystery film starring Ethan Hawke was filmed primarily in British Columbia but featured some filming in Washington State.
The small town in the film was Cathlamet, WA on the Columbia River. The docks in the opening scene are part of the old cannery building on Commercial Street, which also played a large part in Come See the Paradise (another film featuring Japanese internment camps).
The lighthouse seen in the title sequence is the Portland Head Light in Maine.
Closer shots of the main street of town were on Crowsnest Highway in downtown Greenwood, British Columbia.
This shot looks down on Cathlamet from approx. 2nd Street, with the historic Pioneer Church in the foreground.
The Miyamoto farm was the historic Ferry House near Coupeville on Whidbey Island, WA. This home was built by Winfield Ebey in 1860 after his brother Isaac was killed by natives during the Battle of Port Gamble. It is now part of the Ebey's Landing Historic Preserve.
The parade scene was back in downtown Greenwood, BC.
