2021 saw the first Mayoral race under Washington's new nonpartisan system, pitting incumbent Gary Manier against alderperson Lilija Stevens. Manier prevailed by a razor-thin 1557-1479 margin in an extremely close race.
An auto accident on I-55 claimed the lives of Washingtonians Seth Phillips, Callan Letcher, Ana Heinz, & Hannah Phillips.

The WCHS Hall of Fame class of 2021 consisted of Kenny Hopp, Ed Bradle, Kevin Brown, Isaac Fisher, J Michael Harris, Walt Rocke, Mel Romani, Ed Usnik, Matt Webster, the 2012 boys golf team, and the 1989 softball team.
