The A&P Grocery Store at 300 Peoria Street closed its doors after a 15-year run at that location.

In January it was announced that a new shopping center would be constructed on the west side of town, with the flagship business being a cinema, which we could come to know as the Valley Forge Cinema.  The theater opened June 21, 1973 with "The Poseidon Adventure."

Uncle Al's Steakhouse opened on the west end of Sunnyland.

The Jaycess held their first haunted house, at 102 East Holland.

Hillcrest Plaza shopping center opened with charter businesses Men's Pride, Genesis II, and Celeste Ltd.

Washington Skateland opened at the corner of Washington Road and School Street.
