The third and final bandstand on the square came down, ending an era.

In 1959 WCHS District 308 purchased 16 acres of land at the northeast corner of Jefferson and Wilmor Streets from the Heyl Estate for $32,300 for the purposes of erecting football and baseball fields, along with a cinder track.
The apartment building at the corner of Spring and Peoria streets was built and rentals began.
In 1959 Grace Bible Church opened on South Main Street.
Mac-Hy took over the Flanigan's Supermarket on the east end of town. The building is now the Associated Veterinary Clinic.
