1931

With the depression digging its heels into everyone, business and residential development all but stopped.

J.B. Hoke took over sole ownership and added a cafe to his Washington Service Company service station at 501 Walnut Street.  The site became Hoke's Garage and Hoke's Cafe.

A local diner would be a mainstay in the City Building for most of its existence on the square, although the name would change many times.  The first opened in 1931 and was called the Daisy Restaurant managed by Mr. & Mrs. Cullom Christ.  The restaurant also served as the bus station early on.
