1902

In 1902 the Washington newspaper reported the first ever automobile in the city, although not owned by a resident.  Probably less than 10,000 vehicles had been built in the entire country at this point:

"Two men in an automobile were in town Monday. They had come during the day from Gibson City."

William Rinkenberger builds his first carpenter shop near the TP& W depot.
