The Zinser family arrived in Washington in 1851.

Hiram H. Kellogg arrived in Washington in 1851.  The well-travelled Kellogg was known as the first President of Knox College and was also a church builder and a passionate about the temperance and abolitionist causes.  After leaving Knox College, where during his time as President he had spent a year in Europe, and returning home to the east in 1847, he came to Washington and served here as a teacher and a preacher for one year in 1851.  He then moved on to another of his many stops.
