Washington DC is currently the 22nd largest city in the US. It is prominently known for its historical land marks such as Lincoln monument, Washington monument, and the White House. There are also many museums that embrace many cultural identities and expand the knowledge of those visiting. The pictures and content below will show what we saw and experienced during our time in DC.
Our group are focusing on the topic "cultural identity", and we went to the capital of United States, Washington D.C. We contributed two days service project in the non-profit "A Wider Circle", and we also helped to pack food and clothes in another non-profit company.
This map shows the wealth divide in DC. The blue represents the wealthiest 10% and the black represents the lowest 10%. Over the years the lower groups keep moving further and further from downtown DC while the most advantaged move the opposite direction.
Cultural identity is the identity or feeling of belonging to a group. Our group observe and analyse how can different people and group evolved in one community.
Washington D.C has vast and historical art and culture. There is lots of diversity in the community and in the art and that are seen throughout the city.
We went to National Portrait Gallery, where we saw murals of many influential people from all over the world.
These images were not only a time to realize what had happened in the past and reflect on it, but also what is still going on in many places today.
