Dr. Waseem Ullah is an accomplished researcher in artificial intelligence and computer vision, currently serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He earned his Ph.D. in Software Convergence from Sejong University, South Korea, where his research focused on sequential pattern analysis for anomaly detection in surveillance videos. During his academic journey, he worked extensively as a Lab Coordinator and Research Assistant at the Intelligent Media Laboratory of Sejong University and the Digital Image Processing Laboratory at Islamia College Peshawar, contributing to numerous research and industrial projects.
Dr. Waseem has significant experience in coordinating and managing research initiatives. From March 2023 to March 2024, he served as Lab Coordinator at the Intelligent Media Laboratory, leading an eight-member team specializing in computer vision, energy informatics, and signal processing. Additionally, he has partially supervised BS, MS, and Ph.D. students, guiding their research in areas such as image and video analysis, deep learning, and artificial intelligence applications. His work has been instrumental in developing advanced solutions for real-world problems, including anomaly detection and video summarization for surveillance systems.
Recently, Dr. Waseem has expanded his research focus to cutting-edge domains such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision-LLMs. He is exploring their integration with federated learning systems to address challenges in decentralized AI, particularly for sensitive data in distributed environments. His work in this area includes developing models that combine vision and language for applications such as anomaly detection, smart city monitoring, and multimodal event recognition. Leveraging his expertise in federated learning, Dr. Waseem is contributing to innovative frameworks that enhance privacy, scalability, and efficiency in distributed machine learning.
Throughout his career, Dr. Waseem has earned accolades for his research contributions, including the Best Researcher Award at Sejong University in 2024 and Best Paper Awards at multiple conferences. He has demonstrated expertise in computer vision, deep learning frameworks, and intelligent video analysis, making him a valuable contributor to cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence and related fields.
