Ryan Rathmann, Ph.D.

Ryan is an Associate Professor and holder of the John W. and Doris Jones Endowed Professorship in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. Ryan is the all-time winningest coach in collegiate history having coached nine National Champion Collegiate Livestock Judging Teams (3@Texas @Texas A&M and 6@ TTU) and five National Champion Meat Animal Evaluation Teams. Ryan has judged over 400 local, state, or national junior and open cattle shows in over 40 states and internationally. He conducts research in beef cattle nutrition and teaches courses in cow/calf management, animal breeding and genetics, and artificial insemination. Ryan is married to Kayla Kohls Rathmann and they have two daughters named Kinlee (16) and Karlee (14). They raise and show Red Angus cattle, Angus steers, and Dorper sheep.

• Market classes will be separated into three divisions divided by weight and number of classes. Each division will select a grand and reserve champion. 

  •  Lightweight

  • Medium weight

  • Heavy weight

Overall Grand and Reserve Champions will be chosen from the division champions.

Feeder class pigs will NOT be sold in the auction. This is ONLY an opportunity to present your pig in a show setting.

Swine Stalls

SWINE STALL ASSIGNMENTS HAVE CHANGED! Please double check to make sure you have a pen for all your pigs. Some stalls will have two pigs. 

Stall assignments are posted below. Please note that some stalls are 6'x6' while other are 4'x6'. The 6'x6' pens will have two pigs, and the 4'x6' will have one pig. Any family who tagged in more than two pigs have been assigned multiple pens. Each row of pens has a different configuration of 6' and 4' pens. Some families have been assigned stalls across the isle, but close to each other. All pigs have been assigned a stall. Pig Weigh-in Procedure

Procedure: Unload, Weigh, Go to pens

Pen Setup

Exhibitors must have their pen(s) set up before weigh-ins. Pens may be set up anytime starting Monday, July 27th, up until weigh-ins begin. There will be no pen setup during weigh-ins. 

When setting up pens, please be mindful of any other shows going on in the arena. 

Each exhibitor must bring their own pig waterer (at least one per pen). If you need a waterer, contact Malcolm Rose (see below).  

Weigh-ins

Families will have assigned weigh-in times, similar to tag-ins. Please arrive during your designated time. If you arrive earlier or later than your assigned time, you may be asked to wait. 

Assigned times:

• Last names A-I: 6 PM

• Last names J-P: 7 PM

• Last names R-Z: 8 PM

Please do not arrive before 6:00 PM as another show will be taking place. 

Arrival and Unloading

When you arrive for weigh-ins, please line up entering from the south side near the stall barn. We will unload two trailers at a time at the main arena door. I've attached a picture to help show this process. 

Once it's your turn, unload your pigs and take them directly into the arena for weighing. After your pigs are off the trailer, please move your trailer immediately and park it so the next exhibitors can unload. 

After your pigs have been weighed, take them directly to your assigned pens. Once your pigs have been penned, we ask that exhibitors and families not gather or stand by the pens. Please keep the alleyways clear so other exhibitors can pen their pigs. 

Important Dates

Swine will have a maximum weight limit at tagging (May 2, 2026) of 230 lbs. Any swine weighing more than 230 lbs will not be tagged and will be ineligible for the fair. Swine will be weighed at the committee's discretion.
