Why should teachers know their learners?
Teachers need to know their learners from the back of their hands in order to provide the best lesson plans, assessments, and class activities for their students. Every student and every class will be different. The same lessons may require different things for each climate.
How did my teachers get to know me?
My 9th grade English teacher made it a point to do interviews with us as students to get to know us. He always knew what liked in a learning environment, what we didn't like, how we were involved, and what we were interested in. He would use this information to fuel his plans for the class. We did readings over things we liked and we were able to have a lot of choices in where we sat, how we did assignments, and sometimes what we did for the day. Every week we were also able to choose the music he would play for us while we worked. I will always remember him for how he formated his class. These are things I hope to integrate into my classroom.
