I compiled a database of more than 60,000 deaths located at both the tribal and county level for Native Americans and settlers over the 19th century in the American West, along with tribal population estimates. This paper explains how I built the database. This document has the bibliography of the sources used. Following the publication of Weak Institutions and Native-Settler Violence on the American Frontier I will post the data (submitted February 2026).
