My academic journey began when I made an “accidental visit” (wuru 誤入) to the grotto heaven of UCLA. Since then, I have been researching the literary and religious co-construction of natural and cultural geography in China during the middle period (800-1300). My study sheds light on the process by which literati and Daoist practitioners collaboratively created a new understanding of the sacred and political landscape of China. I hope to make the Chinese sacred mountains an essential hub to renew our understanding of Chinese literature and culture as well as the relationship between humans and nature.
