Dr. WanLu Li
I received my M.S. and Ph. D. in chemistry-nanotechnology and material chemistry from the City University of New York, Graduate Center with advisor Dr. Teresa Bandosz. Later, I became a postdoc at Columbia University with advisor Dr. Alissa Park. Currently, I am an Assistant Professor at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey.
I am a curious researcher working in environmental remediation and energy conversion, an exciting area undergoing a massive transformation as society strives to achieve more sustainable development. I am dedicated to improving educational opportunities for students in STEM.
We are hiring undergraduates, master's, and Ph.D. students, if you are interested in the research topics, please contact me through email: liwa@montclair.edu with your resume or complete the contact information below. Students who are interested in the Ph.D. program (Application deadline is December 1st every year.) can obtain more information at https://www.montclair.edu/environmental-management-phd/
Current Students
Shamess El Garni (undergraduate, Chemistry with the goal of pursuing a Ph.D. in the discipline). My current research project investigates the electrochemical reduction of nitrate, with a focus on quantifying ammonia as a product. I have a strong passion for learning and education, and I am committed to continually improving myself both academically and personally.
Hellen Ladino (undergraduate, Chemistry). My research project is the adsorption of microcystin- LR using porous carbon. The purpose of my research is to understand how harmful algal toxins interact with different adsorbent materials. Outside of the lab I enjoy traveling and exploring new places, which helps me have a balanced school-life.
Gio Gomez (undergraduate, Chemistry) I am a curious, passionate, and tenacious undergraduate investigating pathways for the synthesis of atomically-dispersed metal catalysts on carbon supports, primarily employing a ligand-mediated method. I am drawn to chemistry by my firm belief that no question should go unanswered. Outside of my studies, I enjoy writing music, playing dungeons & dragons, and birdwatching.
Alumini
Danela Sadikaj (undergraduate, 2024-2025, Earth & Environmental Science) I am currently working on the project Metal-free Carbons as Antibacterial Materials. Some of my hobbies are drawing, reading classical novels, and getting involved on campus.
Nafi Davies (undergraduate, 2023-2025, Biochemistry)
Nafi has worked on testing photoactive materials' antibacterial activity. She is a person of energy, drive, dependability, responsibility, and diligence. She is a capable team player who can adjust to any difficult circumstance.
Tasnim Agha-Alkla (undergraduate, 2024-2025, Biochemistry)
She has worked on the synthesis of copper and nitrogen-codoped carbons. Outside of her professional endeavors, she indulges in the simple pleasures of reading, knitting, and cherishing moments with her family and feline companion.
Kelvin Wamalwa (graduate, 2024-2025)
