This animation demonstrates the impact of wind shear on the transport and dispersion of wildfire plume. With higher plume injection (Left), the plume is injected into higher level (above the planetary boundary layer in this case), and the horizontal transport is more affected by wind at higher altitude. With low injection (Right), however, the plume is well-mixed throughout the boundary layer, with elevated surface smoke concentrations. The horizontal transport is also more affected by wind at lower altitude. Animation created using python.
