I am a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Earth Research Institute, University of California, Santa Barbara. My current research investigates how climate variability shapes marine heatwaves and low-oxygen events in the Southern California Current, with the goal of supporting ecosystem management in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.
Previously, I studied the dynamics of the westerly jet and Asian monsoon under diverse climate backgrounds, including the Last Glacial Maximum, Holocene, past millennium, and future warming scenarios. Across both past and present work, a central theme of my research is using large-scale climate dynamics as a lens to understand local weather and environmental change. To address these questions, I integrate paleoclimate reconstructions, modern observations, and climate models, bridging insights across timescales to better anticipate future challenges.
I earned my Ph.D. in Meteorology from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and completed postdoctoral training there and at Rice University before joining UCSB. These experiences have strengthened my appreciation for interdisciplinary research in tackling the complex links between climate, environment, and human systems. I am always open to new collaborations!
