Protected Bike Lanes

The bike lanes in West Windsor are at best merely a white line on the ground guiding the separation between motorists and cyclists. They don't provide any protection against careless drivers. A recent trend on the rise in the US is to place a physical barrier between the cyclists and the cars, creating a protected bike lane (See Figure; we designed the first protected bike lane in NJ for our Canal Pointe Blvd. Although it was not implemented). When safety improves, so will ridership for residents of all ages and fitness levels. Recently, Philadelphia obtained $550,000 grants for protected bike lanes. As a council member, I will vigorously apply for grants to install protected bike lane networks in West Windsor.
