June 1, 2020: In this trying time, we are passing out the following COVID19 combating messages to our neighborhood residents.

1. How do we vote at this primary election? The County will send out a Vote-by-Mail (VBM) ballot to all “active” Democrat and Republican voters (who voted at one of the last two federal elections) starting the first week of June. The County will also send a VBM application to all unaffiliated and inactive Democrat and Republican voters. To receive a VBM ballot in the mail, an unaffiliated voter needs to first declare his/her party affiliation.

There will be a limited number of polls open in West Windsor at this primary election. At the polls, there will be voting machines for residents with disabilities only. Other voters who choose to vote at the polls will vote by filling out the same VBM ballots, at the poll.

2. Help with food? West Windsor Little Free Pantry is located by the West Windsor Arts Center and is open 24/7. Take what you need, leave what you can.

3. Do we still recycle our plastic film and wraps? The West Windsor Plastics for West Windsor Parks program is still ongoing. If you have been making contributions to the program, now is the time to (1) weigh your clean and dry polyethylene plastic film and wraps, (2) email Yan Mei Wang the weight at gwangym@gmail.com, and (3) deposit at McCaffrey’s, Target, or Whole Foods to accumulate credit for our third park bench.

4. PPE help? We are checking in on your mask and glove situation. If you need masks/gloves, we can share some of the donated surgical masks and gloves from the West Windsor Chinese American community (for helping residents getting through this tough time) with you. Please let us know if you need them by emailing Yan Mei Wang at wang4council@gmail.com.

November, 2019: Embrace our community, support our local businesses

On my campaign trail, I encountered many residents that run small businesses also in West Windsor. Do you know where they are located?

I also met many home-office-based piano teachers, tutors, consultants, lawyers, realtors, and designers, and men-and-truck-based construction-related and landscaping-based small business owners—painters, house washing business, and various contractors.

Embrace our community, support our local businesses.

October 2, 2019: Come early on November 7 for the third Zoning Board discussion on WWM Properties West's Use Variance application

Note the date change for the originally scheduled Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting on October 3 to November 7, 2019. Join us at 7 pm in the Municipal Complex building for the third meeting on the Use Variance application submitted by WWM Properties West. The proposed land is located in the Heatherfield neighborhood bounded by McGetrick Lane and Westbrook Boulevard, across Route 571 from the Southfield Shopping Center. Four hundred and twenty all affordable garden apartments were proposed to be built on this 21.50-acre parcel of land.

There will be detailed reports on traffic studies, environmental impacts, and sewer capacities associated with the proposed development as well as additional comments from residents.

It was standing room only at the August 22 meeting; come early or there might only be "standing outside" room left.

September 15, 2019: West Windsor Plastics for West Windsor Parks update

An update on our West Windsor Plastics for West Windsor Parks effort: We have earned our first bench and it was shipped to us from Trex three days ago. It has the Forrest Canopy color (to be green) and will be located in Ronald R. Rogers Arboretum. In 2-3 weeks, we will receive the bench and our township Landscape Architect had said that the installation and plaquing should be just one day. There are many township organizations and residents involved in earning this first bench by recycling more than 800 lbs of plastic film and wraps in the past 6 months, and we look forward to a ribbon-cutting ceremony hopefully in October, pending township administration approval.

September 1st, 2019: Together, we can recycle a “West Windsor Election Bench” for our parks

Every time we have a local election in West Windsor—be it a school board election or a council and/or mayoral election, the common practice has been to use corrugated plastic campaign signs larger than 18”x24”. While they may seem sturdier, they sure weigh approximately half a pound each. At the end of an election, with more than four teams running—like this year, we can generate one ton of plastic waste for the landfill.

If we instead use the light and economical polyethylene bag campaign signs, after the election, we can completely recycle them into park benches through our “West Windsor Plastics for West Windsor Parks” program. Candidates, please join us for this environmental initiative in West Windsor? Working together, we may be able to recycle 500 pounds of campaign bag signs and place our first recycled West Windsor Election bench in one of our parks—this November!

August 23, 2019: Come early on October 3rd for the third Zoning Board discussion on WWM Properties West's Use Variance application

On August 22, it was standing room only at last week’s Zoning Board’s second meeting on the Use Variance application submitted by WWM Properties West.

Twenty families in the 96-family Heatherfield neighborhood spoke against the proposal. (1) Five residents shared their traffic accident experience that occurred near the busy Route 571 and Southfield Road, expressing concerns for the prospect of even more traffic accidents with the influx of 420 new families. (2) Three residents expressed similar safety concerns for pedestrians crossing the street, residents on wheelchairs, and senior pedestrians. (3) Five residents moved to this neighborhood for its green and rural scenery and do not want the neighborhood characteristics to alter. (4) Two residents worried that the morning long commute to the train station will be even longer with an influx of 800 cars. (5) Two residents said that they wanted the convenience of local businesses which they would have if the land was developed according to its original P1 zoning. (6) Two residents described the crowdedness of our schools.

Our consultant engineer reported that the Southfield pump station serving the neighborhood cannot meet the demand of the proposed development— it has a 10,000 Gallon capacity, which is only 10% of the required 104,000 Gallon capacity.

Join us again at the October 3rd West Windsor Zoning Board Adjustment meeting at 7 pm in the Municipal Complex building for additional resident comments and detailed reports on traffic studies, environmental impacts, and sewer capacities associated with the proposed development.
