A final easy trick is to use a third-party launcher for your Chromecast. These don't replace the default launcher, but act as another app which, when opened, is just an app drawer of your installed apps. As inceptive as that may sound, the real utility here is launching sideloaded apps that work well on Android TV, but that Google hasn't deemed worthy of being officially approved to show in the launcher. The other benefit is that they display built-in apps too, including the ones Google doesn't want you to see like the Play Store. You just scroll to it and select it.

As some of you might know, Google TV now has a proper version of the Play Store, however there is no good way to get to it. Here is my solution - using this tool, you can make a shortcut 'app' that launches some other installed app, and it will show up on your home screen properly. So I made one for the play store and it works beautifully.

There is a way to check. Use a browser and go to Login to your account and search for the app. The web version of the store will show you the app and say something like "this app is available for some of your devices". Click on that text and you'll get a list showing what the app works on and what it doesn't.

I have the same problem but with YouTube kids! I can't find it in the Chromecast store, nor I can install it from the store's web version. How come Chromecast doesn't support YouTube Kids? I can install the normal Youtube, but no the kids version.

Just like that, you'll be booted into the good old-fashioned Play Store you know and love. The main Apps page is where you can browse through new streaming applications, with Google organizing them by various categories. You can also switch to the Games tab to find a new game to play, or navigate to the Search icon to search for a specific title using the on-screen keyboard or your voice.

The second-gen Nest Hub smart display has a 7-inch display that lets you stream content, look up recipes, video chat with friends and loved ones, and more. It also has Google Assistant integrated so you can check the weather, set reminders, control compatible smart home devices and everything else you use Assistant for throughout the day.

With the Chromecast with Google TV, you can get all of your entertainment from one place, whether you want to watch Andor on Disney Plus, catch any of the World Cup games or play your favorite games. If you're good with the HD version, it's currently only $20, but you can pay $40 for the 4K Chromecast.

Given that this is the second time they've purposefully removed/disabled[1] the ability to play media from external sources, it confirms some of my suspicions that I have had about the Chromecast developer program:

The policy seems to be a heavy-handed approach, where only approved content will be played through the device. The Chromecast will probably not be indie developer friendly. The Google TV team will likely only whitelist media companies.

I would guess (educated guess though!) that Google TV will install anything from the Google play store which includes Zwift. I do this already to my Samsung galaxy S10 Android phone and it works great. As long as the hardware is capable I doubt Google would make us jump through hoops. Fingers crossed!

Downloader is available again in the play store. I install it, I set the unknown sources, I accept permissions when I enter it. But it will not search anything. It also will no longer launch from my home screen on my MECOOL. Driving me a bit crazy. Why suggestions anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

I plan to publish an android application which makes use of the Chromecast.(i) Does Google promote these kind of applications?(ii) Is there a list of Chromecast apps in the playstore where I can list it?

Yes. To download and watch Disney+, you must have a Vizio SmartCast TV with built-in apps. (As long as the TV is online, it will display all available apps, including Disney+.) Press V on the remote, select the Disney+ app and log in to watch.

Ask for albums by name. The other annoyance I found is that playing an album by asking for the 'new' album from a specific artist can sometimes make Apple Music play that album out of order, which happened for me with the new Pusha T album. To prevent this, just ask for the album by its title "Play it's almost dry by Pusha T" or "Play the Pusha T album: It's almost dry" (the latter is probably better if the artist has both a song and album with the same name.

Want a playlist? You're going to need to be more specific. Everyone has playlists, including Apple Music itself. I've found the most success by using the request "play my Apple Music playlist [insert playlist name].

You'll also need to know how to go back to Apple Music from the home screen. If you've navigated away from the Apple Music app, but it's still playing music, go to your home screen and look at the row above "Your apps."

The Google Chromecast (3rd Generation) was released in 2018 and continues Chromecast's tradition of providing the best value in HD streaming video players. If you want to turn any TV into a smart TV capable of streaming Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and many, many more, this is the cheapest way to do it.

Speaking of performance, with the right connection speed, the Google Chromecast (3rd Generation) is seriously fast. Once we found a video, we were able to get it to stream and fully buffer within 20 seconds (videos start playing in low resolutions in under five seconds, but it took a bit longer to get up to the full 1080p on our 149Mbps connection).

Amazon Fire TV Stick (2020)

Amazon Prime subscriber? It might make more sense to pick an Amazon streamer. If you're looking for one as cheap as the Google Chromecast (3rd Generation) then the Fire TV Stick from 2020 is for you. It doesn't perform quite as well as the Chromecast, but plays nicely within the Amazon ecosystem and has a remote. If you have more money to spare, take a look at our Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K review.

If you have Google's Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell, you can live-stream from those devices to your TV with the Chromecast. Just use the Chromecast Voice Remote to ask which device you want to show on your TV: for example, say, "Show me the front door camera." You can also use a Nest speaker or display for a big-screen view by saying something like, "Hey Google, show me the front door camera on my TV."

Instead of scrolling through menus to get to your watchlist, just press the Google Assistant button on the side of the remote and say, "Show me my watchlist." You can also use it to ask Google's virtual assistant to open supported apps. If you have an older Chromecast without a remote, but you do have a Google smart home device such as the Nest display, connect them, and make requests such as, "OK Google, play Stranger Things on Netflix." Other compatible services include Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, and YouTube TV.

Switch up your Chromecast background with Ambient Mode. You can use your own photos or choose from Google's selection of art, landscape photography, and satellite images. In the Google Home app, tap your Chromecast. Tap the gear icon and select Ambient Mode. Here, you can choose to have your Chromecast display images from Google Photos or a gallery of Google-curated images and artwork. Tap Experimental for a low-bandwidth mode. You can also add the weather and time to the display and set how fast the Chromecast cycles through each photo.

The only annoying thing about watching YouTube via a Chromecast is that you have to pick up and put down your device every time you want to watch another video. Or do you? Open the YouTube app, tap the Cast button, select your Chromecast device, and choose a video to watch. A pop-up box appears that gives you the option to play the video right away or add it to your queue. Add as many videos you want to watch to your queue, then settle in. Tap the up arrow at the bottom of the screen to view or edit your upcoming video selections.

One of the chief complaints about the Chromecast is that it doesn't support local media playback, so you can't tap into content you've saved in the cloud. But with media management app Plex, you can stream your music, movies, and photos via the Chromecast. Plex organizes your scattered content and lets you watch it on tablets, TVs, phones, and other devices. Sign up, download the Plex app, and send your content to the Chromecast.

A VPN stops companies and government agencies from spying on your internet activities, and helps to shield you from cyberattacks that target your IP address. In 2019, hackers played unwanted videos on 65,000 Chromecasts warning that they were vulnerable to attack.

Google announced Chromecast on Wednesday at an ayem press conference in San Francisco. By Thursday morning, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com were out of stock and the Google Play store listed a three- to four-week wait for shipping.

Multitasking for Android, available now in the Google Play store, offers a suite of floating apps in one package, versus downloading each one individually. The apps run smoothly in the background and has a sidebar you can slide from the left side of the screen. The package comes with a calculator, calendar, notepad and more. ff782bc1db
