The nearly nude bodies of Wanda M. Lewis, 15, of the 1200 block of Bloomingdale Avenue and Alfred Washington, 17, of the 2700 block of West LaFayette Avenue had been found in Leakin Park off of Franklintown Road. Ms. Lewis was an Edmondson High School student and Mr. Washington was a porter at Hutzler's Department Store, the two had been dating about two months. The couple was last seen the Saturday night prior by family members who saw them leaving for a date. They met at a talent show at Edmondson High School.
Autopsies showed that Ms. Lewis had been sexually molested, possibly raped and then drowned and that Mr. Washington had been strangled. The bodies were found under mud and debris. Ms. Lewis was found under a 3 x 5 foot piece of plywood and was found without clothes except for a scarf around her neck. She was wearing a gold wedding band and her clothes had vanished. Her drowning was caused by holding her head under water in a stagnant pool. Mr. Washington was found wearing only undershorts. Police said they thought the two were killed in the area they were found.

It's sort of a shame they didn't take DNA samples back them.
