When I turn off sync in device, Chrome app will (only) switch the boolean flag sync_switch inside /data/data/com.android.chrome/shared_prefs/com.android.chrome_preferences.xml which also has the lines:
I solved by installing mini Opera Mini
Chrome always tries to save this url: androidapp://com.android.chrome
Dolphin always tries to save this url: androidapp://mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser
Opera saves the correct site URL

After spending too much of time . I was able to figure out what was happening. If there are no referrers given chrome attaches its own referrer whose value is "com.android.chrome". The way I was attaching the referrer was wrong , hence chrome's default referrer was picked up.The correction is in the last part e24fc04721
