WalkLog Privacy Policy
App: WalkLog (com.bgappsch.walklog)
Developer: BG Apps CH
Last updated: 16 September 2026 (map tiles)
WalkLog is a walking tracker by BG Apps CH. This policy explains what data the app handles.
Location
While you record a walk, WalkLog uses your device's precise location (GPS) to draw your route and to measure distance, pace and elevation. Location is only used while a walk is being recorded, which is always started by you and shown by an ongoing notification. The app does not request or use location in the background.
Maps
Walk routes are shown on a street map. The map images are downloaded from OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), which uses OpenStreetMap data. To send the right part of the map, your device requests the map area on screen from their servers, which also see your IP address, as with any website. Your route itself is drawn on your device and is never sent to them.
Physical activity and steps
With the physical activity permission, WalkLog reads your device's step counter to show daily steps and the steps of a walk, and uses Google Play services Activity Recognition to notice when you start walking, so it can offer to record the walk with a notification. Activity data is processed on your device.
Body weight
The body weight you enter is used only to estimate calories burned. It is stored on your device.
Where your data is stored
Your walks, routes, steps and settings are stored only on your device, in the app's private storage. We run no servers and receive none of this data. If Android backup is turned on, your device may include this data in your personal Google backup. A GPX file is created only when you choose "Export GPX", and is shared only with the app you select.
Advertising
The app shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google may collect and process your device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and information about ad interactions. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked for consent through Google's consent form before personalized ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings under Privacy options.
