(I'm re-writing this music, as I learnt so much in 2 years.)
Nature is a fantasy - isn’t the transformation of a fuzzy bud of magnolia into a protective sepal holding a flower amazing? And what about the maple tree samaras (maple tree's yellow flower seeds) turning into helicopters, soft pussy willow catkins opening into caterpillar-like flowers!
And another mesmerizing dance of dandelions transforming from yellow flowers to tiny seeds with fuzzy parachutes!
(I have many pictures that may be included on backstage).
It would be great if dancers acted like trees and flowers, wearing samaras (pink and green) and magnolia costumes, etc. The bees could be drinking nectar from the dandelions (lots of wild nature present).
Setting - wild flowers in the woods. (I'm writing music)
A little dandelion dances to take its place. Then a little butterfly.
Little fairy Lomchika appears dancing in. She leads the group to the Swan Fountain at a pond, where the old piano is.
This short over a minute composition of mine may be used as they run to the fountain
As they get closer, they see the beauty of the fountain in the pond and the old piano on the other side (waltz).
"At that moment, the wind blew, shaping the fountain water drops into a tall sparkling crystal swan with open wings.
The swan wore a sparkling crystal bride’s veil, and was standing on a huge sparkling crystal flower in the water!"
(The next scenes teaches subliminally first steps in learning how to read sheet music (skipping and not skipping, on lines or in between lines, about low and high keys on the piano.)
Joe and the little woods fairy jump on the clouds above the pond to get to the piano Walking On Music Notes Clouds is about skipping and not skipping notes.
(The instructions for dancing are in the video below and in my sheet music for it)
Learning about the high and low notes and black keys
There is an old piano with a huge mirror in the back of it to reflect the keyboard to the audience.
By that piano they see a little bear and a red canary bird, jumping and singing. Of course, the bear has a low voice and the bird chirp high notes.
Melodia fairy sits down at the piano and plays little tunes to mimic their voices - Low (bear's) and High (birds'). - AtTheOldPianoFirstTime music file will be here.
Little bear sits on her left at the piano while the bird sits on her right. As she repeats their tune on the piano, little bear and the birds join in dancing. Lomchika dances too.
Next, learning about black keys
Melodia fairy and Lomchika repeat the little tune playing piano and a flute.
Piano fairy will point to middle C so that Joe can play the melody.
Then, Joe plays the bits on the piano, going back to the clouds to remember the jumps on the clouds.
The above is skipping and not notes on the clouds, then the piano.
I's time to go home - flying home and dreaming of the old piano (celesta and almglocken (for woodpecker)
What is Joe is dreaming about?
The storyteller gestures us to the next scene.
It's actually a funny dream. Joe is dreaming that he and Rainbow see a woodpecker sitting on the piano keys, right in the middle of the piano where middle C is. Joe and his dog are trying to sneak in on the woodpecker!
They quietly crawl from the ends of the keyboard - Rainbow from the bottom and Joe from the top - trying to get close to the woodpecker.
The storyteller, observing this, draws lines above the piano. These lines look like sheet music with a hole in the tree in between. There is a bass or F-clef (2 lines below the short line) and a treble or G-clef (2 lines above the hole).
The woodpecker sees Rainbow and Joe and flies to the lines above the piano, safely landing in the tree hole.
