We’re Walking with Ex Presidents 🐾

So… why the name? Meet Washington and Jefferson - the inspiration behind it all.

Our son Cam always named the dogs while he was growing up. It started with DJ, our Inuit Husky Retriever cross, who was already part of the family when Cam was born and quickly became his best friend. Then came Chowder, the black Lab I trained as a search and rescue dog, followed by Samfur, our Old English/Tibetan Terrier cross.

Then came Cam’s Hamilton phase… and that’s when Washington joined the family - and the theme was born.

After Cam headed off to university, we adopted Bingo. Since he was still young, we renamed him Jefferson. I may have convinced Jules it was to keep the naming tradition going… but honestly, I just wanted a dog called Jeff.

We love getting out into nature - walking, exploring, and sometimes wild camping along the way. We’re always on the lookout for interesting places to visit, and of course, great dog-friendly cafés and pubs.

Here and on our channel, we share our adventures and give honest reviews of places that say they’re dog-friendly - because not all of them really are.

The day job keeps us busy, but we’re committed to bringing you at least one new adventure every month.

Washington

Hi, I’m Washington 🐶

Everyone thinks I’m a beagle… but surprise! My dad was a Staffie and my mum was a Foxhound. I was born in a brilliant rescue centre in a place called Bourne - strange but true!

I came to live with Scottie and Jules when I was just 8 weeks old, and I’ve been loving life ever since. I’m a pretty confident lad and I LOVE meeting new people - after all, a stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet!

If you see us out walking, Scottie might pop me back on the lead… I can get a bit excited and jump up to say hello. Sometimes I forget I’ve got muddy paws, and I know little humans can get a bit scared - sorry about that, I just get so happy to meet new friends.

Scottie calls me “the detective” because my nose is always on the go, sniffing out clues and discovering new things along the trail 🔍

I do like to lead the way on walks, but I never go too far - I’ve always got one ear listening out for Scottie calling me back.

Adventure, friends, and sniffing out the world… that’s what I’m all about 🐾

Jefferson

Hi, I’m Jefferson 🐾

I came to live with Scottie and Jules when I was about 9 months old. I was pretty small for my age, and to be honest… the world felt like a scary place. I was timid and unsure of everything.

But with their help and a bit of guidance from my new big brother - I’m starting to feel braver every day.

Scottie calls me an explorer because I LOVE getting into the bushes and undergrowth, sniffing out my own little paths and adventures 🌿

I enjoy our walks, but I never wander too far - got to keep an eye on Scottie! I’m also quite happy playing with a ball on my own… though I do love a good rough-and-tumble with Washy too.

I’m still learning, still growing, and figuring out the world one adventure at a time 🐶

Scottie

Hi, I’m Scottie

After years away from the outdoors, I’m getting back to the hiking and wild camping I loved as a teen in the West Country. Back then, I spent a lot of time on Dartmoor and in the Brecon Beacons, training and competing in team walking competitions. I also trained in North Wales in survival skills and mountain leadership, worked as a caving instructor for Scout and youth groups in the Mendip Hills, and spent time at Eskdale Outward Bound Centre climbing and abseiling.

That was a long time ago… so now it’s time to start again.

These days, walking with my dog gives me a real sense of wellbeing. Like many people, I have my ups and downs, and getting outside helps me reset and recharge. My job as frontline Ambulance Crew can be intense, so time outdoors isn’t just something I enjoy - it’s something I need.

After being seriously ill with COVID in 2021, which took months to recover from, I lost a lot of my fitness and gained weight. This journey is about getting that back - one step at a time.

Join me as I rediscover the outdoors, rebuild my fitness, and get back to doing what I love 🌿
