So what is and who exactly is DACC (Dukes Against Childhood Cancer)? We are exactly that; literally verbatim! We are comprised of spirit-filled Dukes of James Madison University who have bonded together over an equal passion to keep advocating for the fight against pediatric cancer. Our organization was founded in 2020, when a 5x cancer warrior and her two best friends decided it was time to bring awareness to pediatric cancer to JMU's campus. Since then, DACC has flourished and prospered into what it is today by spreading our motto wherever we can: "Bleed Purple, Go Gold!" Our recipient of the donations and money made from this event is the non-profit organization ASK. The purpose of this event is to allow our participants to have a mere glimpse into the journey of kids who are being treated for cancer. While walking a few miles in “boots” may not be comfortable, it is far more comfortable than facing cancer as a kid. All donations support ASK's mission and programs.

Nope! While cowboy boots are encouraged to embrace the spirit of Walkin' in Boots, they are by no means required. Whether you show up in cowboy boots, sneakers, running shoes, sandals, or your favorite pair of comfortable shoes, we're just excited to have you join us. The most important thing is coming together as a community to support children and families affected by pediatric cancer. So lace up whatever footwear works best for you and get ready to make a difference!

The T-shirt guarantee date of 8/29/2026 applies only to participants who select the optional T-shirt during registration. If you choose to add a T-shirt, registering on or before this date ensures your shirt size is included in the official order and fully guaranteed. Registrations made after 8/29/2026 are still welcome, but T-shirts for those who opt in may be limited and not guaranteed based on remaining inventory.

No, unfortunately refunds are not able to be provided but the money is going to an amazing cause and we appreciate your support!

This is a rain or shine event. In the event of extreme weather we may have to cancel. However, if the event is canceled, we will communicate details regarding picking up your t-shirt and free swag on us! Under no circumstance, unfortunately, no refunds will be issued. 

We will have a variety of activities. We will have a ribbon station where you can tie ribbons onto your boots, put temporary tattoos on, make cards (for us to send your card you make to kids at ASK, opportunities to be entered in giveaways through donations, some swag for sale, and many more things to do!) Also, we will have a photo "booth" for you to take pictures at. We plan on having a DJ or band perform too!

Registering for Walkin' in Boots gives you access to a fun-filled day of community, activities, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children battling cancer. Your registration helps support ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation and the families they serve.

Participants also have the option to purchase an official Walkin' in Boots event T-shirt during registration. Please note that T-shirt registration closes on 8/29/2026, so be sure to register before then if you'd like to secure one. Whether you choose to add a T-shirt or not, every registration helps us move one step closer to a cure.

The walk begins at 11:30 AM, but please arrive before then to get your registration materials! You can begin arriving at 10:00 AM. This event should end around 2:00 PM! It will not extend past dark.

Yes! We will need some people to guide our attendees to the right areas (especially for those not too familiar with James Madison University locations and "lingo"!) Everyone is welcome! Students, faculty, parents, families, community members, kids, and everyone of all ages are invited! We would love nothing more to have a blend of people coming together to support pediatric cancer! We are open to everyone coming that are not just JMU students! We have youth t-shirt options under the registration page if you are bringing your kids! We would love for kids to come because we will have a station where they can make cards for their age battling some form of horrid disease/pediatric cancer.
