Denton is one of the three towns that makes up Walker Creek County. It was founded in 1904 by a merchant, Shaun Ainsley, after he began opposing John Sanders. This was viewed negatively by Walker Creek residents, but Ainsley had dozens of supporters to join his new settlement. Denton struggled immensely until 1908 when it rejoined Walker Creek and helped to form Walker Creek County. It was named after Lake Denton, which is located within its borders. Residents commonly participate in or spectate the kayak race across Lake Denton each July.
It has a population of 518 according to a 2012 census.
