The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.
What Training does Walker County CERT provide?
CERT provides training in basic disaster response skills, such as:
Fire safety and Fire Extinguisher Training
Light search and rescue
Team organization
Disaster medical operations
Basic First Aid
Training is available for you, your family,
your neighborhood, your school, or your business
for FREE.

The CERT program offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.
What online training is available?
Time is limited: work, sports, and other family obligations - we get it!
Whether you're already in the CERT program or want to learn more before joining us, these Emergency Management Institute (EMI) interactive web courses are free and available to anyone. Below are a couple of FREE online classes that are available:
Independent Study Course IS-317.A: Introduction to Community Emergency Response Team (CERTs)
Independent Study Course IS-315.A: CERT and the Incident Command System (ICS)
You will need to register with your Student Identification Number (SID) to take and get credit for taking the online classes. You can regiser for your SID here .
What does Walker County CERT do?
In the past, Walker County CERT has:
Directed traffic for local parades
Coordinated parking at local events
Provided food for first responders at large-scale events (cave rescues and fires events)
Assisted in searches for missing persons
Assisted in recovery efforts following 2011 Tornados
In the last 12 months, Walker County CERT has:
Trained business employees in operating fire extinguishers
Programed and handed out Severe Weather Radios
Provide information at local events (ValleyFest, Down Home Days, and Honeybee Festivals)
Assisted in dispatching First Responders during Honeybee Festival
Set up and operate Severe Weather Shelters for Walker County residents
Who are Walker County CERT members?
Walker County CERT members are from all over Walker County - all towns and communities are represented
Walker County CERT members are well trained and prepared to help you, your family, and neighbors be better trained and prepared - fires, storms, First Aid, and natural and manmade disasters.
Walker County CERT members are your neighbors there to help until the First Responders arrive. We are not First Responders.
Walker CERT members are trained volunteers who want to help our neighbors be better prepared. We are not paid professionals
