This was our third trip to walk the Wales Coast Path. An early start for us arriving at Rhyl at 7.15 just missing the bus we needed. Parked the car in a nearby car park, the website said £7 all day parking, when we arrived it was £3.50 all day (Bonus), we had a 20 minute wait for the next bus and we we soon on out 30 minute bus ride back to Ffynnongroyw. Arriving at approximately 8.15am. The first part of the walk was a pleasant surprise, much better than I expected, a nice country trail and then treated by some of our last views of the estuary before we made our way to Talacre. We had a quick rest near the lighthouse ///crinkled.wisely.drop on Talacre beach and found a few of those seashells like the one depicted in the Wales Coast Path logo on the signs. I don't know the correct name for this kind of shell but I have never seen so many of them on a beach. The path was then a nice pleasant walk along the beach, the first beach we have walked along since starting in Chester. A long stroll along this long beach which turned into like marsh land, and then we entered a rather nice looking holiday park, albeit briefly, it looks like they were getting ready for a new season of holiday makers with cleaning vans parked everywhere. Then onto and through Gronant Dunes with brief glimpses of the beach again. We were soon in Prestatyn where we made time for a coffee break at the only place on the seafront that was open on this end of February walk. ///salary.clarifies.asterisk Although not much was open this section of the walk was very busy, The last four Miles of our walk back to Rhyl was along the promenade, as we left Prestatyn you could see Rhyl in the distance and it took awhile for it to get any closer. We made it back and decided to finish at the sea aquarium as it looked like it was in line with the bus station, we headed back through the town stopping off for pastries along the way. In the next part I can hopefully use the train and will be able to continue from the aquarium. Really enjoyed today's walk, Talacre lighthouse and beach we a highlight for us, looking forward to coming back!!!
PLEASE ONLY USE THIS AS A ROUGH GUIDE. TAKE MAPS AND FOLLOW SIGNAGE. WALKED: Feb 26th 2022
Facing the front of The Railway Inn you will need to turn right and head North through the village of Ffynnongroyw, keep walking on the pavement on the right hand side of the road, as you leave the main village look for a small gravel pathway on your right hand side, through a gate, this leads to the A548, continue directly across (Crossings to your left) and take the pathway through the gate on the opposite side ///tender.visual.signed. Following this main gravel pathway until it leads out onto a small access road, here turn right under a railway bridge, the road bends left then over a small brook then at a sharp right bend, take the pathway on the left hand side which leads to a tarmac pathway,///nation.noble.norms Stay on this pathway as it passes a mining colliery wheel and leads back towards the Dee Estuary, passing around the Gas Terminal. The path eventually turns to a gravel track on an embankment and leads to Talacre Beach. Here in front of you you will see a gap in the dunes leading onto the beach, ///award.forge.spoke turning left on the beach passing the Point of Ayr Lighthouse. As you continue along the beach keeping near the dunes on your left hand side eventually the beach turns to marshland and you go from walking on sand to walking on marshland grassy areas. ///cyclones.crystal.among Follow the signage here until you are bought out onto a Haven Holiday park, the signs lead you out of the park and you pick up a tarmac pathway cycle route, ///shunts.surprised.tame only a couple of Meters and we took the path to the right which crosses a small water and then turns left heading into the Gronant Dunes. ///pizzeria.roses.bedding We decided to leave the path briefly to go to the viewpoint signposted a short way along using the boardwalks provided. We had a quick rest stop and headed back to the main pathway, following the signage through the dunes which lead us to Prestatyn where the path then turns to a tarmac/concrete pathway that runs along the seafront all the way into Rhyl.
