Technology in Education embraces the use of audio-visual media,
information and communication technology and educational data
processing and tele-communication. This dimension of educational
technology involves the use of equipment of hardware machine (audiocassette player, video cassette player, overhead/slide/film strip projector
and other projectors) and materials or software (audio-cassette, videocassette, transparencies, slides, filmstrips) in education and training. Every
teacher and student in every part of the world should be familiar with such
traditional technology in education like the chalkboard, charts, pictures,
portable board and models in the classroom. Such instructional devices
have been commonly referred to as “teaching aids” or “audio-visual aids”.
In the field of educational technology the work and “aid(s)” is not
commonly used. With modern technology, virtually all of these older
instructional media have been greatly improved, and new ones have been
developed and introduced into the classroom. There are now instructional
devices that teachers use to facilitate their teaching and those that can even
stand in for teachers. The two types of instructional materials are now
called educational media. Thus, today’s technology in education includes
the following educational media.
